Enter Consumer Allergies and Diagnoses
scenarioText
You just finished completing the Patient Setup tab for Marley, a new consumer. The next step is to enter his medication allergies and diagnoses. To complete this task, you’ll need to open the correct sections of the profile and add all remaining allergy and diagnosis details.
whyImportant
While the Patient Setup tab has a place for certain allergy types, medication allergies must be placed in a separate, dedicated location. This information is required and also critical for Prodigy to be able determine interactions. Having a diagnosis code is also required by some payers and in some states to bill certain medications.
conclusion
Great work! You have successfully entered a patient profile! In the next task, you’ll practice entering insurance information. You may now exit this course.

You learn that Marley has been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, so you’ll want to make sure this information is in the Diagnosis section of his profile. Click the Diagnosis tab to do so. Prodigy uses “ICD-9” codes to pull in specific diagnoses. Type in the code provided below to add it. Press the tab key and then click the Add button.

You’ll continue by adding Marley’s medication allergies. He is fortunate to not have any, however, we still need to confirm this information in Prodigy. Having no allergies is considered an “allergen class” when selecting in Prodigy. Click on the Allergies tab to open it. Begin typing in "no known" - options will appear as you type. Double click the correct allergen class to match the sample below and then, click the Add button.
