1
To change prescription information, you’ll need to pull up the patient’s profile through the RxEntry program. Open the program, choose the correct action type, and locate Duane’s profile by searching for his last name. Edit
2
Notice Duane’s Venlafaxine capsule prescription is not displayed. This is because it has already been voided. It’s possible to reverse a rejected claim, but we won’t be practicing that yet. In this case, you’ll need to start a new Venlafaxine tablet prescription per Dr. Everett’s request. Use the appropriate action letter for a new prescription and respond to the batch popup. Edit
3
Search by last name to locate the doctor that requested Duane’s medication change, then pull her into the form. Edit
4
To locate the correct medication, search using the drug name and dose in the following format: (name)(comma)(dose). You’ll notice several options are available based on manufacturer. For accuracy, use the NDC# to make your selection. Be sure to attach the brand name so it’s easier for Duane to recognize his prescription. Edit
5
Dr. Everett has authorized a limited number of refills with the same instructions as Duane’s previous capsule prescription. Complete fields 10-12 using the instructions below. You’ll need to calculate the Authorized Quantity Per Fill based on each refill lasting 4 weeks. Edit
6
Your earlier entry into the Authorized Quantity field has pre-populated the Dispense Quantity field. Since the Label Quantity field should always match the Dispense Quantity field, it will also auto-populate as you move through the fields. Go ahead and confirm both of these entries. Edit
7
When entering prescription directions, always use common SIG codes. These are automatically set to pull in accurate free form text when entered correctly. Use your pharmacy technician knowledge to enter the correct SIG code for the directions shown below. Edit
8
Notice how your SIG code changed to free form text and several fields below it have auto-populated. PROscript will calculate the Day Supply in line 18 based on the code you entered. The label quantity will also default to 1, which is the most common. Confirm these entries to continue. Edit
9
For this prescription, there are no necessary changes to lines 20-27, so you can move directly to the DAW field. Dr. Everett did not specify a DAW code for brand mandates or substitutions, so mark that accordingly. It is also required that you note how the prescription was received. In this case, Dr. Everett made the prescription by phone. Edit
10
At this point, you would check your entries against the prescription record hard copy to ensure accuracy. For training purposes, assume the data is accurate and transmit the claim to the insurance company. You won’t find a shortkey for transmitting a claim—this is done using the Enter key. Edit
11
Once the claim is transmitted, you’ll need to review it to be sure it has processed through the insurance. Use your hotkeys to exit the transmission confirmation screen and exit back through the Facility and Action fields. Then enter a new action to view the online response. Edit
12
You handled everything correctly for Duane’s situation, however, it looks like the change to tablets has also been rejected as Drug Not Covered. That’s as far as you need to go for this task. To continue, back out to the RX Entry screen. Edit
